AWARENESS

 VRM - HA8 Vehicle Rescue Management and Hazard Awareness

This 8 hour, one day theory course will introduce the rescuer to the Vehicle Rescue Management (VRM) theory and is a pre-requisite for all further NAVRA courses. VRM is a systematic approach to managing a motor vehicle collision (MVC) and breaks the incident into three task oriented function, Command/Safety, Technical and Medical. The roles of each of these functions and how they interact with each other will be detailed during this highly informative power point presentation. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to recognize potential hazards and formulate effective plans to mitigate them. This class is a must for all personnel who respond to MVCs.

VRM-SSF4 Vehicle Safety Systems and Fuels

This 4 hour, one day theory course will introduce the student to vehicular safety systems mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as outlined in the Federal Motor Vehicle safety Standards and as applied by vehicle manufacturers. Crash worthiness and post crash standards will be examined to include such topics as occupant crash protection, seating systems, rollover protection, head restraints, seat belt assemblies, child restraint systems, fuel delivery systems and alternate-fueled vehicles. Emphasis is placed on identifying, accessing, and mitigating the inherent dangers of these safety systems as they apply to vehicle rescue management and the direct hazards they pose to the rescue technician.

OPERATIONAL

VRM -PRI8 Patient/Rescuer Interface

 This 8 hour, one day theory and practice course will follow the International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) guidelines for the management of patients injured in motor vehicle crashes in the pre-hospital setting. Instruction will be at the first responder level and will focus on scene size-up, initial patient triage, primary and secondary patient assessment, treatment of the patient inside of the vehicle, packaging and removal. The first 2 hours will be classroom theory followed by practical exercises. This course will require proper PPE.

 VRM-OPP40 Vehicle Rescue Management Operations

 This 40 hour theory and practice course will introduce and educate the rescuer to the Vehicle Rescue Management Theory. Following the classroom portion, students will spend the next 32 hours being instructed in vehicle stabilization, tool selection and safety, hydraulic and light duty tool use and patient assessment, packaging and removal. The content of this course meets the operational level of NFPA 1670. This course will require proper PPE.


TECHNICAL

VRM-THT16 Technical Hydraulic Tool

 This 16 hour, two day theory and practice course will educate the rescuer using a two part theory and practice method. The first part will utilize a 4 hour classroom presentation on tool safety, proper selection, tool and rescuer positioning, use and maintenance. Part Two will be 12 hours of practical hydraulic tool practice under the guidance of knowledgeable and experienced instructors. This course will require proper PPE.

 VRM-TLT8 Technical Light Tool

 This 8 hour, one day theory and practice course will include a 2 hour tool safety, proper tool selection and positioning classroom presentation followed by 6 hours of practical tool use. the tools featured in this course will be various rescue and reciprocating saws, pneumatic rescue tools and manually powered displacement equipment. This course will require proper PPE. 

VRM-SBI Vehicle Rescue Management for School Bus Incidents

 This 16 hour, two day theory and practice course will educate the rescuer on the unique strategies and tactics needed to successfully mitigate a MVC involving a school bus. Topics that will be discussed include bus classifications, construction, tool selection and use. This course will also discuss the high incidence of a school bus crash becoming a mass casualty incident and the associated problems that they present. This course will require proper PPE.

 VRM-TCL8 Technical Tow/Cable Lifting

 This 8 hour, one day theory and practice course is designed to give the student a technical background in rigging, recovery, winching and towing operations as they relate to vehicle rescue management and the interoperability with local resources. The 2 hour classroom portion explains the theory of mechanical advantage, vehicle engagement, winch operations and recovery techniques utilized by towing and recovery agencies. The 6 hour practical portion puts the student to work applying learned techniques and understanding the capabilities of local towing agencies. A system is outlined for establishing and maintaining a working/training relationship with local towing agencies.

 VRM-TSL16 Technical Stabilization/Lifting

 This 16 hour, two day theory and practice course will educate the rescuer on various types of complex stabilization scenarios as well as the strategies and tactics required to complete lift operations. Students will complete practical exercises utilization stabilization and lifting equipment. An emphasis will be placed on the coordination of the rescuers during these types of incidents to conduct safe and proficient operations. This course will require proper PPE.
