Largo FL Responds to Unusual Collision

On 06-14-2010 @ approximately 1200 a commercial van was heading north on US 19 over Ulmerton Rd when it was contacted on the dr iver's side by a wrecker truck. The wrecker truck tore the side off the van , even severing the driver's seat belt. E38 was first on scene followed by T41 and S38 who was clearing a medical call. The van was stabilized, the ro of was flapped back well behind the B posts and the patient's seat back was removed. During such time the interior paramedic was inside the van a ssessing the patient's vital signs, starting an IV, and applying a KED. Rem oving the seat back allowed the stretcher to be placed almost parallel to t he side of the van accommodating in-line removal of the patient onto a back board without spinal manipulation.
